Ramona Lane

Midwife, Naturopath, Herbalist,

While I live in paradise on the Sub-Tropical Coast of Queensland, Australia, I have travelled to many parts of the world including Greece, where my creative potential was fully awakened. I am passionate about many things including the transformational power of creativity, earth connection and my cherished role of mother to four beautiful spirits. I have been formally trained in the Visual Arts and am a trained teacher of the Colour of Woman Method. My work as an Intuitive, Visionary Artist is dedicated to the sacred feminine.  From my space ‘Goddesses Garden and Studio’, I teach regular painting workshops and host events that have included international scholars, musicians and sacred space holders.

Currently I am completing a Bachelor of Arts program with Majors in Ancient History and Religion through Macquarie University in Sydney. It is the sacred creative practices that hold my attention: the symbolic language portrayed in ancient painting, pottery, sculpture, and weaving; the role that women played in these creations and the portrayal of women in myth. I write regularly for Feminism and Religion and my work has been featured in a number of online publications and organisations such as the Tor journal, Patheos and Mago. I am also a professional member of the Association for the study of Women and Mythology.

Colour of Woman is a step-by-step painting method based on Intentional and Intuitive processes. It was founded by Visionary Artist and Poet Shiloh Sophia McCloud. The method allows anybody, even those who have never painted before to paint!  Images and stories held deep within are accessed and brought to form in the way of painting where they become agents of change, transformation, healing and growth. The method is and has been successfully used by women all over the world.

Oh Muses, Oh high genius, aid me now!

Oh memory that engraved the things I saw,

here shall your worth be manifest to all!

(Dante, Inferno)

"Sing to me of the man, Muse, the man of twists and turns

driven time again off course, once he had plundered the hallowed heights of Troy" (Homer, Book 1, The Odyssey)

The Muse is you voice within, your guide, your internal navigator, your intuition, your inspiration. In ancient Greece the Muses were divine manifestations of the sacred feminine and the source of inspiration for all the creative arts - written, spoken, sung and danced. There are nine known muses, all daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne. For thousands of years, authors, artists and poets alike have been known to invoke the Muse as guide and inspiration for their work. From Hesiod, Home, Shakespeare, Dante and Robert Graves, the Muse has been celebrated and honoured.

Activating a relationship with and invoking the spirit of the Muse, I believe, is pivotal in the growth and expansion of creative practice. There are a number of ways to invoke and honour the Muse. These include meditation, music, ritual, dreaming, exercise, food, reading, good vibes and sacred space  - all of which we will do on retreat. Ultimately your Muse assists in awakening you to your full creative potential!

Lesvos, or Mytilni, is the third largest island in Greece and is virtually unaffected by the mass tourism making it the perfect place to experience real Greek culture and hospitality. The island boasts award winning beaches, traditional villages, is home to a huge variety and bird and wildflower species, medieval castles, cafes, inexpensive seafood and some of the finest art museums in Greece. It's natural attractions include a petrified forest at Sigri and a number of hot springs known for their healing properties. Lesvos is shot locations for artists, writers and poets. It also has a rich historical and mythological background; mentioned in the Homeric hymns and once home to the ancient female poet Sappho and philosopher Aristotle and more recently one of Greece's most famous artists, Theophilus, and nobel prize winning poet George Seferis.

The town of Molyvos is situated on a small mountain topped by a dramatic Medieveal castle that was built by the Byzantines. There are archaeological ruins scattered throughout the town with remarkable Polygonal walls. The town is built of stone houses and shops which surround the castle and follow the coast to what is heralded as one of the most beautiful harbours in Greece where you can enjoy a drink or a meal at one of the many cafes and restaurants. There are many interesting shops including jewellery stores, boutiques, pastry shops and fresh produce. There are also many cultural and spiritual centres and spots that offer yoga classes. Molyvos will also not disappoint if you are looking for a little nightlife. There are many bars, restaurants and opportunities to see some live Greek music. Molyvos is also the home to Author and Scholar Carol P. Christ who will be joining us for a guest lecture.

In this very unique 7 night retreat you will come together with like-minded women from around the globe to nurture and explore your creative spirit, invoke your Muse and bring Her into being on canvas, all the while  gathering inspiration from the beautiful, historically and culturally rich town of Molyvos on Lesvos, Greece; birthplace of  ancient female poet Sappho (sometimes referred to as the tenth Muse). We will create and be accommodated at the family owned and run Diamanti Studios, only 10 minutes walk from town. With views to the castle, an organic garden of olive trees, figs, quinces, grapes, swimming pool, onsite taverna with traditional home cooked and home grown food, your stay will be very comfortable and nourishing.

Our days of painting will be imbued with ritual, guided visualisations aided by drumming, poetry, story-telling, soulful discussions and creative play. We will dive deep into an intentional and intuitive approach to painting that will call you to surrender and trust in the creative process. It also calls for a sense of boldness, freedom and courage. We will let go of expectations and create in a safe and judgment free space and connect authentically with our creative spirits. Our muses will be brought to life using the step-by-step colour of woman method, thus the painting is process based, which means that it is the process, rather than the outcome that is of most importance. The tools and techniques that I offer you will enable you to expand on your creative process and look at your creative identity with a new perspective. Invoking your Muse and bringing her into form is a quest. It is a deeply profound experience and one that offers an activation of your inspiration for any creative pursuit.
